FAQs for Southern Serengeti and Ndutu
1. In which months do we recommend this region? We recommend visiting Southern Serengeti/Ndutu in the months of January to February as you will be able to see the Wildebeest calving. They synchronise their birth and produce thousands of babies everyday as it reduces predation. It’s a very unique phenomenon.
2. How far is this from Central Serengeti? It will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach Central Serengeti from the South.
3. What do I see here apart from the Great Migration during the recommended months? You will be able to spot smaller herbivores like dik-diks and impalas, predators such as Cheetahs, Hyenas and Lions. Pangolins and Aardvarks also stay in this area, however they are nocturnal creatures so chances of seeing them are quite low.
4. How many days do we recommend spending here? Southern Serengeti and Ndutu of Ngorongoro tend to overlap each other. There are no lodges within the boundary in Southern Serengeti, but Ndutu has a lot of lodges. So instead of staying in Serengeti, we recommend staying in Ndutu instead. The animals will have spread out so you will see similar animals within Southern Serengeti and Ndutu.
We recommend staying a minimum of 2 to 3 days in this region.
5. Are there any additional activities besides game drives that you would recommend doing in Southern Serengeti and Ndutu? Yes, you can enjoy a Hot Air Balloon Safari in this region from December to March. You may also enjoy a Walking Safari in this region. In order to do one, you will be required to stay at a camp that organises such safaris.
