FAQs for Tanzania in February

1. What do you mean by the term Green Season? Tanzania goes through a period known as Short Rains from the end of October till December. These rains impact the dry and arid lands of Tanzania and lead to a sudden burst of greenery. However, there is just the right amount of greenery. The grasses don’t get too long and the foliage doesn’t get too thick. This creates a scenic beauty with different shades of green that many enjoy. Hence, it is called the Green Season.

2. What is the weather like in Tanzania in February? The weather remains pleasant during this month. The temperatures go as high as about 28°C / 82°F and as low as 16°C / 61°F. So during the day regular T-shirts, trousers, jeans, or joggers would be sufficient, however for the night time you might have to bring some warmer clothing like a fleece jacket or a pullover depending upon your tolerance.

3. Is it likely to rain during my trip? February does experience some showers during this month but they remain light and short. If it does rain during your trip, it will only last for about an hour or two and won’t be heavy. In addition, all the moisture will ensure that there are no dusty roads.

4. I’m on a budget. Is February a good time for me to visit? February is definitely a great month to visit for those who are on a budget. Since it is not a part of the high season and the country does not experience a lot of tourist influx, prices of accommodations and services remain low compared to the high season. This could really help those who are trying to save. In addition, the wildlife visibility remains great during February, so it is definitely an excellent month to visit Tanzania in.

5. Are the parks and roads dusty during this time of the year? Due to some moisture and light showers the roads will not be dry and dusty. On the other hand, you would not have to deal with wet, muddy roads either as the downpours won’t be heavy.

6. Is there any specific activity that you would recommend doing during this month? We would recommend travelling to Southern Serengeti and Ndutu to get a look at the Wildebeest calving. It is a unique phenomena where Wildebeests synchronise their birthing and thousands of babies are born everyday. In the month of February, the calving reaches its peak and about 8,000 baby wildebeests are born everyday. It would truly be a remarkable sight to view for wildlife enthusiasts.

You will be able to spot the newly born wildebeests teetering about, enabling with their environment, and some predator prey action too as the high concentration of herbivores attracts predators such as lions and hyenas.
