1. Are there specific times of day that are better for observing the river crossings? Yes, the best time to watch the river crossing is between 12 to 4 P.M.

2. What is the estimated number of herbivores involved in the Great Migration during this period? The migration is composed of over a million herbivores.

3. Are there any other notable wildlife species that can be seen apart from the migrating herds? Besides the notable Wildebeests, the Migration itself is also composed of Zebras and Thomson’s Gazelles. In addition, in the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu region itself you will be able to spot countless iconic species like giraffes, elephants, buffalos, hartebeests, impalas, hyenas, cheetahs, lions and more.

4. What is the weather like in the Western Corridor during the Great Migration period? Months of April and May are a part of the Long Rains and you can expect thunderstorms and rains throughout the day. While heavy showers are more likely to occur at night, the showers might halt your game drives during the day for about a couple of hours. The frequency of rains will decrease towards the end of May however, and in June, the conditions will greatly improve. The conditions will be dry and the weather will be pleasant.

5. Can you provide more information about the accommodations available in the area during this time? Yes, there are various camps and lodges available in the area during this time to suit different budgets, such as Kirawira Serena Lodge, Serengeti Safari Camp, Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge and more.

6. What is the recommended duration of stay to witness the different stages of the Great Migration? We would recommend staying at least two to three days in this region to witness the best of river crossings, enjoy game drives, and engage in activities such as hot air balloon rides, walking safaris, and more.

7. Is there a specific best time within the April to June period to maximise the chances of seeing significant events during the Great Migration? The best time to witness Grumeti river crossings is from Mid May to Late June, as most of the herd is concentrated in the Western corridor by this time, and then begins its journey northwards which includes crossing the river.

8. How many times will I be able to witness the river crossing during my tour? Watching Grumeti river crossing is not so frequent as the crossings are over in a short window of about 2 weeks sometime between Mid may to June and the river banks do not offer great view points to see the crossings. So we advice our clients not to count on watching grumeti river crossings.
