FAQs for Group Safaris in Tanzania

1. How does a Group Safari differ from a Private Safari? To understand in detail how a Group Tour differs from a Private Tour please check out our page on Group Joining vs Private Safaris.

2. What are the advantages of a Group Tour? A Group Tour is great for those who are on a budget as the charges for vehicle and guide will be divided between all the individuals in the group. Therefore, it is a great option for solo travellers and couples. Additionally, doing a safari alone might not appeal to everyone and a group tour would allow solo travellers or couples to meet new people and socialise.

3. What are the disadvantages of a Group Tour? The primary disadvantage of a Group Tour is the lack of flexibility. Since there are multiple individuals and everybody’s preferences need to be accommodated, timings and schedules remain fixed to try to get the best of safari experience for each individual.

Further, the guide’s services will have to be shared by the individuals as one cannot get the complete attention of their guide.

Lastly, it might not be possible to do some of the activities such as hiking or bird watching unless the majority of the group wishes to do those things.

4. I’m on a budget and a Group Safari sounds like the best option, but I am interested in doing other activities. Is there any way in which I can still do them? If you’re interested in activities such as hiking or bird watching or photography, you can inform us of your preferences and we will try our best to find a group of people for you who are interested in doing similar activities and will be visiting Tanzania at the same time as you. Nothing can be guaranteed here, however.

5. Are there any guidelines to follow for those who join a Group Safari? Yes, we request the clients to maintain a group decorum by respecting the timings, not misbehaving towards fellow travellers or guide, and not monopolising the guide’s attention.

Additionally, while each client will get a window seat, we still expect everyone to rotate between front and back seats during the safari.

All disputes will be settled by the guide and his instructions will have to be strictly followed.

6. What kind of luggage can I bring on a Group Safari? For those joining the Group Safari we request you to bring only one bag or backpack with you as everyone’s luggage has to be accommodated in the boot of the vehicle. If it does not fit inside the vehicle we will have to place some bags in the seating area which may make the vehicle feel congested.

7. Can I start group safari on any day? No. Group tours are offered on fixed dates and subject to availability. Please check with your sales consultant for available dates for the group tour you are interested in.

8. Can I customise the itinerary in group tour?

No. Itineraries, including daily timings are fixed in group tours

9. Can I join a group tour even if I'm arriving a little bit past the departure time from Arusha on day 1?

You might be able to join the tour if day 1's schedule is to visit Tarangire or Manyara but it would cost an additional USD 100 for arranging a private vehicle to transfer you from Arusha to the national park and join with the rest of the group.

Please note that it won’t be possible to join the group tour if day's schedule is to visit Serengeti

10. Is a group safari in Tanzania recommended for kids?

Kids under 10 are not allowed to join our group safaris. For kids between 10-15, while we strongly recommend private safari, it is possible to join group safari when accompanied by parents. For kids aged 16 and above, we will be glad to welcome you on group tours.

11. Do all clients in group tours stay at the same accommodations during the tour?

Mostly, yes. But sometimes, some of the standard accommodations offered group tours might not have availability by the time we receive the booking from a new client that wants to join the group. In such cases, we offer accommodations within 15-30 min drive time from standard accommodations.
