Day 1 (January 15, 2026) - Transfer from Kigali (Genocide memorial and local market visit) to Volcanoes National Park
Day 2 (January 16, 2026) - Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Day 3 (January 17, 2026) - Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and transfer to Lake Kivu
Day 4 (January 18, 2026) - Boat Cruise in Lake Kivu and transfer to Kigali

Lake Kivu

In January, Lake Kivu, Rwanda, typically experiences warm temperatures with average highs around 26-28°C (79-82°F) and lows of about 17-19°C (63-66°F). This period is characterized by a relatively dry climate, although there may still be occasional rainfall. Humidity levels tend to be moderate, making the weather feel comfortable overall. The landscape around the lake is lush and green, benefiting from the rainy seasons that precede and follow January.

Volcanoes National Park

In January, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda typically experiences mild and humid weather. The average daytime temperatures range from about 18°C to 25°C (64°F to 77°F), while nighttime temperatures can drop to around 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F).

This month is part of the dry season, so there is generally less rainfall compared to other times of the year, although some light showers can still occur. The park's high elevation means that it often has cooler temperatures, especially in the evenings. January is also a good time for trekking and wildlife viewing, as visibility tends to be clearer.

Day 4 (January 18, 2026) - Lake Kivu to Kigali takes about 3.5 to 4 hours (157 km)
